Adamu reacts to likely APC consensus presidential candidate

Senator Abdullahi Adamu has reacted to question on whether the APC he leads would adopt a consensus presidential flagbearer the same way he emerged the party chairman.

Adamu had emerged national chairman of the ruling party, based on his adoption as President Muhammadu Buhari’s preferred choice for the position and forcing other aspirants to step down.

He however debunked the insinuation that the party was planning to foist its preferred candidate in the race.

“The chairmanship seat is not the same as that of the tussle for the presidency of the country.

“You can’t even compare the two of them. That question does not arise,” said Adamu,a two-time former governor of Nasarawa state.

He also said the APC “would scrutinise all of them (presidential candidates) based on our guidelines to be sure we pick the right candidate,”

Adamu, who is a former stalwart of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, said the APC  had become the “cynosure of all Nigerians” and he is hopeful the party “will retain power at the general election.”

The APC has 28 presidential aspirants including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former president Goodluck Jonathan, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Rotimi Amaechi etc
