We neutralized one robber, others fled with gunshot injuries – Police on Ibadan robbery
Ngozi Onadeko, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, claims operatives “neutralized” one of the robbers who attacked a bullion van at the Idi-Ape area of Ibadan on Thursday.
“The armed robbers engaged the police officers escorting the bullion van and in the process, an undisclosed amount of money was carted away.
“In a swift response, the police equally neutralised one of the armed robbers, while some were believed to have escaped with multiple gunshot injuries,” Onadeko claimed.
She also mentioned the casualties of incident as involving two policemen and an onlooker.
The police account however differ from what reports have on the incident. The robbers, who operated in a Sienna bus, killed two policemen and two motorcyclists at the robbery scene. They were said to have carted away the money hijacked from the bullion van.
On his part, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has condoled with residents over the incident.
He said, “The security agencies are investigating the incident. I pray that the souls of the dead rest in peace and ask that we keep their families in our prayers.”
