The police in Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria, accused three persons for attempting to murder a traffic warden at the Orile Imo area of Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, who speaks for the police command, said the suspects attacked the officer, Akinpelu Sunday, with dangerous weapons and attempted to set alight a police towing van.
He claimed the suspects had done so to prevent an investigation into a motor accident in which they were involved.
The police at Owode-Egba Divisional Headquarters learned of the attack and deploy a rescue team to the scene, Oyeyemi said.
“Three of the hoodlums were arrested while others escaped, but petrol was recovered from them,” he said.
