Ondo woman confesses to killing own son, family
A grandmother from Ondo state in southwestern Nigeria has revealed the reason she set her son, his wife, and two grand children ablaze.
The victims are Victor Oloro, the suspect’s son, his wife, Rachael; and grandchildren, Toluwani and Blessing.
The suspect claimed she murdered her son and his family because they starved her of food.
According to the story, the suspect waited for the family to go to bed before she sprinkled petrol around the room and set it alight.
All the victims but one were dead by the time they got to the Federal Medical Center, Owo, several kilometers from Akure-the scene of the crime.
One of the suspect’s grandchildren is fighting for her life at the hospital due to severe burns.
A witness, Korede Michael, claimed the incident happened at about 2a.m last weekend.
He said, “Unfortunately, we lost the last grandchild, who was just two and a half years old, immediately we got to Owo.
“The son and his wife, also, gave up the ghost while the only grandchild left is in a critical condition.”
Korede said that the suspect was not in any way affected by the fire.
”The children could not send the woman out of the house when she started behaving strangely because it was built by her late husband.”
The police said the suspect confessed to the crime; the case is under investigation.
