Supreme Court ruling disfavours Okorocha in tussle over party control

Senator Rochas Okorocha may have lost grip of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo state.

This is because the Supreme Court has, in its ruling, affirmed Dr. Macdonald Ebere as the rightful state party chairman.

Okorocha backs Dan Nwafor for the position and had the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) court affirming the latter.

However, the Supreme Court judgment will see Governor Hope uzodima take control of the party from his arch rival, Okorocha.

Oguwike Nwachukwu, Uzodima’s press secretary, said in his press release that “the Supreme Court judgment read by Justice Adamu Jauro, on behalf of four other Justices, held that the FCT High Court lacked jurisdiction to have heard the suit ab initio”.

“The law is settled that a suit should be filed in the High Court of the state in which the facts constituting the cause of action occured; that is the High Court of the state in which the events occurred.

Nwachukwu said the judgement “has finally sealed and laid to rest the question of the authentic Chairman of the APC in the state.

He urged their supporters to avoid “unwarranted provocation by persons on a hatchet job to undermine the credibility and popularity of our great party.

“Finally, light has taken its glory over darkness,” he said.
