South Africa’s Zulu gets new king amid family row

South Africa’s Zulu tribe has crowned Misuzulu kaZwelithini as its new king amid opposition from two of his brothers and some family members.

The coronation took place in Nongoma, KwaZulu-Natalnon Saturday and witnessed large attendance.

In his speech, Misuzulu said that “a hidden helping hand with ulterior motives” was fueling the family dispute”.

“We are aware of this, and I caution you that following today’s event, we ought to pursue unity and not divisions,” said Misuzulu.

Prior to Saturday’s ceremony, some family members had picked and coronated Prince Buzabazi, the third-born son of the late King Goodwill Zwelithini and Queen Buhle Mathe of Kwadlamahlahla Royal House in Nongoma, as their preferred choice for the heir to the Zulu kingdom.
