UK withdraws embassy staff from Lebanon

The UK has withdrawn its embassy staff from Lebanon following rising tension between the country and Israel.

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported that the UK Government took the decision “amid growing tensions in the region.”

The Foreign Office pointed to the current “security situation” as the reason behind the move, the report said.

Cross-border violence between Lebanon’s  Hezbollah and Israel has escalated in recent weeks.

Lebanese state media said yesterday that three children and their grandmother had been killed by an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon.

Daniel Hagari, the Israeli military spokesman, said this was “in response to the firing of an anti-tank missile that killed an Israeli citizen”.
