Six police officers killed in ambush in Delta

Six police officers have been killed in an ambush by unknown assailants in Ohoro Forest in Delta State.

The grisly killing comes a few days after suspected militants gruesomely murdered four army officers and 14 soldiers in Okuama community, also in Delta State.

The police, in a statement, said that the slain officers were on a mission to rescue three of their colleagues from their captors.

The slain officers are Inspector Abe Olubunmi (IRT), Inspector Friday Irorere (51 PMF), Sergeant Kuden Elisha (51 PMF), Sergeant Akpan Aniette (51 PMF), Sergeant Ayere Paul (IRT), and, Sergeant Ejemito Friday (51 PMF).

Apart from the dead officers, six other members of the team are missing. They are Inspector Onoja Daniel; Inspector Onogho Felix; Inspector Emmanuel Okoroafor; Inspector Joel Hamidu;, Sergeant Moses Eduvie, and Sergeant Cyril Okorie.

The police described the fallen officers as heroes and promised to give posthumous honours to them at the Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations Ceremony, to be held on April 5th, 2024 in Abuja.

The police also said the process of paying all entitlements due to their slain officers to their families had commenced.

“Immediate measures have been initiated to ensure that justice is served swiftly and the perpetrators of this abhorrent crime are brought to justice,” the statement added.
