Details of Federal Government charges against Binance

The Federal Government has filed charges against Binance, a crypto currency trading platform, in Abuja.

The Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, instituted the suit against Binance.

Binance is accused of evading taxes, such as Value-added tax, company income tax, failure to file its tax returns, and complicity in helping its users evade tax.

The government said that the offences contravened Section 40 of the FIRS Establishment Act 2007 as amended.

Prior to its latest ordeal in Nigeria, Binance had, in 2023, faced a money laundering suit in the United States, where it pled guilty to the accusation.

TheCornet had earlier reported that Nadeem Anjarwalla, one of the two Binance executives detained by the Nigerian authorities, had fled the country.
