Man bags life jail for infecting 14-year-old with HIV

A man named Richard Saviour has been sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling and infecting a 14-year-old, who happens to be his wife’s niece, with Human Immunodeficiency Virus, HIV.

During the trial, the defendant denied the charge of defilement, stating that the victim was stubborn and often stole from him.

The trial judge, Justice Oyindamola Ogala, handed down the sentence on Tuesday.

The victim was said to have been admitted to an orphanage home after the incident blew open.

In passing her sentence, Justice Oyindamola said that the evidences of the prosecution witnesses proved that Saviour committed the offence.

The judge also found Savior’s wife culpable in the crime.

She said: “The court finds that the totality of the testimony of the defendant who testified in his defence calling no additional witness is in essence a denial of the allegation without more.”

She then proceeded to deliver her verdict according to the punishment for Saviour’s crime.
