Prison attack: Buhari, service chiefs in ‘strategy meeting’

President Muhammadu Buhari is currently leading a security meeting at the presidential villa, in Abuja.

The meting is coming after boko haram terrorists Tuesday invaded the Kuje Custodial Centre, killing security guards and setting prisoners free.

Among the freed prisoners are members of the Jihadist group, who the government published their identities and declared them wanted on Friday.

President Buhari, while visiting the prison, expressed his disappointment at the poor security arrangement at the facility.

In a statement by his media adviser Femi  Adesina, Buhari was said to have queried the prison officials on the incident.

“How can terrorists organise, have weapons, attack a security installation and get away with it?” Adesina quoted the president as saying. He was also said to have asked how “the defences at the prison fail to prevent the attack”, the number of inmates and personnel on duty at the time of the attack. The President also asked, “How many of them were armed? Were there guards on the watchtower? What did they do? Does the CCTV work?”.

It is believed that the President will get answers to his questions at the Friday security meeting. In attendance are the chief of defence staff, General Lucky Irabor;  chief  of army staff, Lt. Gen Farouk Yahaya; chief of air staff, Air Marshall Isiaka Amao; chief of naval staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, and Inspector-General of Police Usman Baba.
