Police release Labour Party national chairman Abure

The Nigeria Police Force in Edo State has released the national chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure.

Abure was arrested on Wednesday for attempted murder. A petition by the national youth leader of the party, Comrade Eragbe Anslem to the police alleging Abure was after his life triggered the latter’s arrest.

In his petition, Anslem had claimed Abure sent thugs after them, who destroyed their vehicle and attempted to kill them.

But Obiorah Ifoh, national publicity secretary of the party, disagreed with the account. On this part, the opposition to the party’s governorship primaries for Edo State was the underlying motive for Abure’s arrest.

Ifoh said, “The Labour Party on Tuesday had a very successful delegate election in Benin ahead of the Party Primaries scheduled to hold on Friday. The party chairman only this morning along with party governorship aspirants also kept a scheduled security briefing with the Department of the State Security (DSS).
