Police make arrest following ‘Eiye, Aiye confraternities clash

The Police in Ogun state have arrested seven persons believed to members of the Eiye, and Aiye confraternities. The arrest took place after the two rivaling groups clashed in Abeokuta, the capital of the state.

A report had claimed the cult members equally clashed with the police but they were subdued.

SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the spokesperson for the police command, said members of the two unlawful societies engaged one another in a supremacy battle that took place at the Ijaye area of Abeokuta.

He gave the names of the suspects as Kazeem Ogundairo, aka NEPA; Nasiru Idris, aka Aloma; Ayo Joshua, aka Terry G.

Others are Damilare Shogbamu, aka Dhray; Bisiriyu Owoyele; Taiwo Olaitan  and Labulo Jamiu, aka Jboy.

Oyeyemi said the police acted on a distress call from residents from the troubled community.

“Upon the distress call, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, directed a special squad led by ACP Bolanle Muritala to move to the scene and bring the situation under control.

“On sighting the policemen, some of the hoodlums ran in different directions, while some engaged the policemen with weapons.

“At the end of the encounter, the squad succeeded in arresting six of the hoodlums, while others escaped.”
