Police disappear as armed robbers invade Access Bank, kill three

Armed robbers on Wednesday attacked a branch of Access Bank, located in Ikere Ekiti, southwest Nigeria, leaving three persons dead.

Images from the crime scene showed that the robbers damaged the man trap security doors to gain entrance into the banking hall.

They were also splotches of blood on the walls and floors at the scene.

In a video posted on the internet, the daredevil robbers, wielding heavy guns, were seen driving away from the scene on motorcycle and in a car. While the robbery lasted, there were no police in sight.

Reacting to the incident, Ognndare Dare, commissioner of police for Ekiti State, said that he had ordered an investigation into the robbery incident.

Dare vowed to “ensure the perpetrators are trailed, arrested and brought to book.”

He also claimed that the police and soldiers engaged the robbers while making their escape. Dare said “tactical squads as well as the military … engaged the hoodlums,” who “abandoned the three vehicles and two motorcycles they used for the operation and escaped into the bush.”

“The vehicles and motorcycles were recovered to the station.
