Police, criminals engage in gunfight in Delta state

The police in Delta State have said they engaged some armed criminals suspected to be kidnappers in a gunfight.

In a release issued to the public, the police stated that the State Commissioner of Police, CP. Wale Abass PSC, had directed special operatives to patrol Jesse – Igueleba area, located in Edo State.

According to the release, the criminals had lay in wait for likely victims in the bush.

“The hoodlums who apparently sighted the police team, fired at the front tyre of the lead pickup van, thus demobilizing the vehicle.

“They were swiftly engaged in a gun duel by members of the police team.

“The armed men eventually succumbed to the superior firepower of the policemen who pursued them into the deep forest during which four {04} suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded,” the police said.

The police said they recovered one AK47 rifle with twenty-five {25} rounds of live ammunition from the criminals.

“The wounded suspects were taken to the hospital for treatment where they were later certified dead,” the release added.
