Akeredolu: Forgery allegations political – Majority Leader

Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, the majority leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, has said that those who alleged the signature of ailing Governor Rotimi Akeredolu was forged were doing so for political reasons.

Ogunmolasuyi, in his interview published by a national daily, dismissed the claim, adding the legislature would not be investigating the matter.

“The House has no reason to investigate the issue of forgery since the signature is not the Speaker’s or any member of the House. The essence of a signature is to affirm a document that belongs to a person,” Ogunmolasuyi reportedly stated.

He added that “the best person to raise the alarm over a signature forgery is the owner of the signature.”

Similar accusations were made in the past but Governor Akeredolu publicly debunked it, Ogunmolasuyi held.

He believes the allegers have political ambitions to succeed the incumbent in 2024. Ogunmolasuyi said the forgery claims would go away once governorship candidate emerges.

“The security agencies in Nigeria should look into it (the alleged forgery) and conduct more investigation,” Ogunmolasuyi said.

Governor Akeredolu’s absence from governance has continued to fuel controversies in the state. After a bungled attempt to remove Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyeditiwa, the House of Assembly grudgingly agreed to have him lead the state in Akeredolu’s absence.

Apart the internal squabble between governor’s supporters and those of his deputy, opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has persisted in its condemnation of the governor’s absence from the state.

Since returning from a German hospital after spending months in intensive care, Governor Akeredolu has abandoned governance in Ondo State.

The governor is holed up in Ibadan, Oyo State, 176.7 kilometre away from the Ondo state capital, Akure.
