Man burnt to death in electric car because door didn’t open

A medical doctor, Omar Awan, has burnt to death in his crashed Tesla because the door refuses to open during the fire.

According to Daily Mail, the vehicle’s electronic door handles didn’t pop out, making it impossible for rescuers to save him from the flames.

The incident happened in February 2019 in Florida, a court heard on Thursday.

Awan’s family has sued Elon Musk’s car company, claiming the burning of the father of five and the smoke he inhaled was avoidable, had the doors opened.

Beside the ‘failed’ door handles, the family is claiming the luxury car has an ‘unreasonably dangerous fire risk,’ the lawsuit said.

Tesla has denied the claims made in the lawsuit, says the car was functioning perfectly, and alleges that Awan was to blame for his own death.

According to the police report, Awan was speeding at the time of the crash, with his car going around 79mph.

He was also found to be over the drink-drive limit.
