Lagos robber blames parents for his taking to crime

Abduallahi Buba, a suspected robber, has claimed that his parents’ negligence forced him into crime.

The suspect, Abduallahi Buba , 20, made the claim to police interrogators who arrested him and his accomplice, Mustapha Mohammed, 37, over the offence in the Ijora Badia area of Lagos.

According to Buba, his father who is a tailor abandoned him. His stepmother, he claims, also starved him, which led to his becoming a waif and finally leading to his involvement in crime.

“We were forced to start sleeping under the bridge at Ijora-Olopa, by National Theater.

“My stepmother was always refusing to feed me. My father is a tailor. I started to sleep inside my father’s shop when I could no longer bear the suffering.

“One day she instigated my father against me. I ran away from home to save myself from humiliation.

“I met other teenage boys and girls while sleeping under the bridge and got introduced to crime,” he said.

Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos State police spokesman, said the suspects were arrested during an ongoing robbery on Apongbon Bridge, Ebute-Ero around midnight.
