Lagos Man caught with dead child attacked
A man who undertook to help a friend bury his deceased child almost had himself killed by a lynch mob.
The unnamed man had encountered a mob who swooped on him, in the belief that his action was a sinister one.
But the man was lucky to escape with his life through the intervention of police officers attached to the Ilembe-Hausa Police Division.
Speaking on the rescue, Lagos police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said the child had died of his illness and his corpse was being taken for burial at the time.
“He said he was contracted by the parents to help bury the child. He was on his way to bury the child before he was accosted by some residents who thought he had evil intention.
“The parents of the deceased child were invited to the station, where they confirmed the man’s claim,” Hundeyin said.
The spokesperson said that the parents of the child and the accused man were released to proceed with the burial as planned.
