INEC debunks Bode George’s claim about hiring Lagos politician

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied a certain Femi Odubiyi is its Head of ICT.

The electoral umpire is reacting to the claim by prominent Lagos politician, Chief Olabode George. As alleged by George, Odubiyi, a former commissioner for science and technology in the cabinet of former governor Akinwunmi Ambode, leads the INEC’s ICT department.

George is known to back Labour Party’s governorship candidate Gbadebo Chinedu Rhodes-Vivour against his party’s flagbearer – the Peoples Democratic Party – Olajide Adediran (Jandor). George also claimed last week that a plot was afloat to assassinate the LP candidate but the police said they have not received such complaint.

In its rebuttal, INEC said, “The attention of the commission has been drawn to a widely publicised report by a well known Lagos politician, Chief Olabode Goerge, that the The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has appointed one Femi Odubiyi, a former commissioner in Lagos state and an associate of a prominent politician, as its head of ICT. Nothing can be further from the truth.”

INEC further stated that it has no such person in its employ and that its ICT department’s staff members ‘are career officers of the commission’.
