How car importer lost N12.6m to ‘swindlers’ – police

A businessperson has lost N12.6m to the duo of Ibrahim Sanni and Kayode Odubanjo, whom he had shipped four cars to for sale in Nigeria.

The cars are Toyota Matrix 2006 model, valued at N2,750,000; a Toyota Forerunner, 2006 model valued at N4m; Toyota Camry Sport 2008 model, worth N3.1m; and a Toyota Camry Sport 2007 model valued N2.8m.

The unnamed importer reported the case to the police after the Sanni and Odubanjo failed to give to him the proceeds of the sale.

During the arraignment of the duo before the Ebutte-Metta Magistrate’s Court, police prosecutor Cyracus Osuji said that obtained the vehicles by false pretence. He also alleged the defendants converted the sum of N17m, being the freight cost of the vehicles, to their personal use.

Sanni and Odubanjo are facingeight counts charge of conspiracy, obtaining property by false pretence, stealing. The prosecutor equally accused the defendants of giving false information to the police and said their accomplices are at large.
