Hardship: Oyebanji extends free ride to other parts of Ekiti

Abiodun Oyebanji, governor of Ekiti State, has extended his free transportation programme to help more students and workers in their daily commute. The free ride scheme will include Ikere Ekiti effective from Monday, February 19, according to a government statement.

Yinka Oyebode, Oyebanji’s press secretary, in a statement, said that the action was “part of the administration’s efforts to cushion the impact of economic hardship” in the country.

“The buses will ply the major routes in Ikere Ekiti and will convey students and workers in the morning and afternoon,” he added.

Governor Oyebanji had introduced the scheme last year, as a palliative to lessen the hardship of residents.

Oyebode said that the governor plans to acquire more buses and extend the gesture “to other major towns in the state.”
