GTB refuses to refund customer five months after failed transfer

Guaranty Trust Bank has yet to refund a customer, Daniel Ojuade, after a failed transfer he did on its app five months ago.

Ojuade, a lawyer, had transferred N43,500 to the United Kingdom (UK) embassy at Ikeja for a visiting visa appointment on November 3, 2022.  The embassy would later inform him it did not receive any credit. Amid his disappointment, Ojuade travelled to the UK, returned but the situation was the same.

Ojuade said he visited different GTB branches with a view to getting the transaction sorted out, but his efforts futile.

Following his email complaint, GTB reportedly wrote back to him on November 18, 2022, assuring him of a resolution of the issue.

“I sent them emails on several occasions. I visited three branches of the bank several times too because of the incompetence and lack of proper treatment, but they kept saying my complaint had been lodged and they would attend to it,” Ojuade lamented.

Still dissatisfied, the lawyer returned to the bank on March 7 but his visit ended like the previous ones.

“They sent an email to apologise that they would resolve it and refund my money, but till this very day, I haven’t got my money,” he told FIJ, which published the story originally.

The newspaper said Cornelius Onuoha, a GTB public relations officer, did not return a comment for the story, despite alleged repeated telephone calls and text messages sent to his phone.
