Gov. Adeleke shuns court order, suspends CJ

Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun State, Southwest Nigeria, has disregarded the order of the National Industrial Court restraining him from suspending the chief justice, Adepele Ojo, from office.

The Osun State house of assembly equally shunned the order by Justice J. D Peters in the suit Ojo filed before the court in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The house of assembly on Thursday announced Justice Ojo’s suspension, saying it was done to allow for investigation of some allegations against her.

The lawmakers also asked Governor Adeleke to appoint Justice Olayinka  Afolabi as her replacement.

“The swearing-in ceremony of the acting Chief Judge of Osun State (Justice Afolabi) will be held tomorrow at the Executive Lounge, Governor’s Office, Osogbo,” says Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokesperson.

Under the Nigerian Constitution, only the National Judicial Commission has disciplinary powers over a sitting judge.
