Former Sokoto governor Aminu Tambuwal faces probe

Senator Aminu Tambuwal, the immediate past governor of Sokoto state, is currently being probed over land allocation and sale of government assets while in office.

A five-man commission of inquiry,  led by Justice M.A. Pindiga (rtd) and Barrister Nasiru Muhammed Binji as chairman and secretary respectively, is handling the probe.

The committee’s other members are Chief Jacob E. Ochidi, SAN; Alhaji Usman Abubakar and Barrister Lema Sambo Wali.

A statement, signed by the Press Secretary to Governor Ahmed Aliyu, said that the committee would also ascertain the government bank account in which the proceeds from the sale of the assets are lodged and amount realized therefrom.

The statement added that the committee would examine the various allocations of Lands throughout the
state including government owned houses sold or auctioned.

The committee was given two months from the date of its first sitting to submit it report.

Senator Aminu Tambuwal was governor of the state for eight years, after serving as speaker of house of representatives. While leaving office, Tambuwal said he would want “to be remembered as that governor that was able to impact on human capital development in Sokoto state”

He contested the presidential ticket of his party in 2022 but suddenly stepped down for the eventual flag bearer, Abubakar Atiku.

Tambuwal suffered a heavy defeat in the last general elections as the rival All Progressives Congress won the senate and house of representatives seat in the state. The former governor equally failed in his bid to become the Senate Minority Leader recently.
