Embattled Oyo deputy governor goes on appeal

ÂRauf Olaniyan, the embattled deputy governor of Oyo state, has appealed the ruling of an Oyo state high court, which dismissed his suit aimed at stopping his removal.

Olaniyan’s counsel, Afolabi Fashanu, stated this following the ruling by Justice Ladiran Akintola. The judge ruled that the Oyo state house of assembly breached no constitutional provision in trying to remove Olaniyan from office. The lawmakers, 23 of them, had signed on to the plan to remove Olaniyan for gross misconduct, financial recklessness among other allegations.

Olaniyan has been on a war path with Governor Seyi Makinde, who must have triggered the action by the lawmakers. The denouement of the disagreement was Olaniyan’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC). Makinde has relocated Olaniyan’s office to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
