Yahaya Bello ‘cripples’ local councils in Kogi

Yahaya Bello, the outgoing governor of Kogi State, has frozen the government’s bank accounts. He similarly barred the accounts belonging to the local government areas in the state. The local government areas chairmen were inaugurated in 2020 for a four-year tenure.

Announcing the governor’s order, Asiru Idris, commissioner for finance, said, “No imprest or any form of payment should be made to anyone from Government Account henceforth.

“Standing Orders and Investment Instructions are hereby cancelled forthwith. ”All Kogi State and Local Government Accounts are hereby FROZEN with effect from today, Thursday 22nd November 2003.”

TheCornet reports that Kogi State emerged from a recent election won by the governor’s pick, Usman Ododo.

Ododo’s victory, however, is dogged by electoral malpractices. The opposition candidates Dino Melaye and Murtala Ajaka faulted Ododo’s declaration while accusing the ruling party of compromising electoral officials.
