3 APC Senators state reasons for defecting to PDP, NNPP

Senators Ahmad Babba Kaita (Katsina North), Lawal Yahaya Gumau (Bauchi South), and Francis Alimikhena (Edo North) have stated their reasons for quitting the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Both Babba Kaita and Alimikhena defected to the Peoples Democratic Party. On his part, Gumau left for the fast-growing New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The affected senators notified the president of senate, Ahmad Lawan, and their colleagues during plenary on Tuesday.

Babba Kaita accused his home governor, Bello Masari and the party leadership in the state of marginalizing him.

“I have since been joyful and graciously accepted into the fold of the Peoples Democratic Party in Katsina State,” he said.

On his part, Alimikhena cited crisis in the state chapter of the party for his action.  He said the crisis led to the creation of “parallel executives that has undermined internal discipline, cohesion and focus” in the party.
