Medical doctor accused of alleged coup plotting slumps, dies

A Ghanaian court has confirmed Federick Yao Mac-Palm, who is standing trial for allegedly plotting to overthrow President Nana Akuffo-Addo, dead. Mac-Palm, a medical doctor, slumped and died on March 25.

“We have received the confirmation of the passing of Dr. Mc-Palm.

“We pray the Lord grant him peace,” the presiding justice Justice Afia Asare-Botwe said during a proceeding.

The three-man panel then went on to expunge Mc-Palm’s testimony from its records of the trial and discharged his lawyers accordingly.

The authorities had slammed the deceased medical doctor and seven others with two counts charge of conspiracy to commit high treason and high treason.

TheCornet reports that the Ghanaian government arrested Mc-Palm and two other suspects in 2019. The suspects were accused of plotting to “destabilise” the  government. The two other suspects arrested along with Mac-Palm are Ezor Kafui, and Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu.

The three men, the government said, belong to a group known as ”Take Action Ghana (TAG).”

The government claimed in a previous statement that it recovered some weapons from the suspects, which included six pistols, three smoke grenades, 22 IEDs, two AK47 magazines and one long knife.
