Two dead in Lagos cult violence

Violence between rival cultists in Lagos have left two people dead in the Ijakin area of the state.

The cult groups, identified to be Aiye, and Eiye confraternities, are said to control different turfs across the area.

The casualties of the latest clash between them are Kamoru Lasisi, who is said to be an undergraduate of the Lagos State University, and another, Lateef Atanda.

The recurring deadly violence has reportedly lingered for two months.

Ben Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos police, said the law enforcements are aware of the uptick criminal gang war by youths in the area.

Hundeyin said the rising cult violence spurred the police authorities’ decision to disperse its “tactical unit” to the nooks and crannies including the affected area.

“We are aware that cultism is on the high side in Ijanikin but in the coming days or weeks, there should be a sharp decline in the activities of cultists in that area,” Hundeyin, a police superintendent said.

The violence has disrupted normal living and economic activities of residents in the area.
