‘We will not allow Twitter, others to throw Nigeria into crisis’ – Lai Mohammed
Lai Mohammed, Nigeria’s minister of Information and Culture, vows the federal government would resist any social platform from putting Nigeria into “crisis”.
He said this while addressing the inquiries from journalists on the Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter, a micro-blogging social app.
He said the government continues to engage Facebook, Google (owners of YouTube), and Twitter.
“We have no intention of banning any social media platform again. But we will also not sit by and allow any platform whatsoever to throw our nation into crisis, ” he said. The minister also implied implied that “fake news, disinformation, and hate speech since the micro-blogging site changed ownership.”
He equally revealed government was “closely monitoring” Twitter.
The government, previously, shut down Twitter in Nigeria, accusing it oc being used for dispersing fake news against the government.
