TRENDING: Governor Bago on bended knees before Tinubu

A photo of Niger State Governor Muhammadu Umar Bago on bended knees while he takes President Bola Tinubu hands into his has become a trending topic on social media.

The image of the governor is similar to others in which public officials have shown overt reverence to a serving or president, vice president, or former military heads of state.

One of such is former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. In separate scenes, El-Rufai was seen bowing to former president Olusegun Obasanjo, ex-vice president Abubakar Atiku, ex-military leader Abubakar Abdulsalami.

Similarly, during his inauguration as governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo bowed to former governor and benefactor Yahaya Bello.

The effusive reverence seems cultural especially for those from northern and southwestern Nigerians.
