Tinubu lands in Abuja

Nigeria’s president elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu has touched down at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja.

Tinubu had travelled out of the country after his dispute win in the February 25 presidential poll. He had said he would visit France, London, and Saudi Arabia for the Muslim lesser hajj. In a statement before his departure, Tinubu’s media office said he was taking the break to rest from the gruelling campaigns and election.

A short video and the subsequent photographs released of his vacationing abroad, Tinubu was with a coterie of his allies, including Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; House of Representatives speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila; and the head of Lagos civil service, Hareem Muri-Okunla.

The president-elect is expected to be sworn in on May 29, though two opponents are challenging his election win in court. Each of the opposition candidates, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi have asked the elections petitions tribunal to either order a revote or declare him the winner of the poll.
