PDP clears the path for Atiku, others on 2023 presidential poll

The Peoples Democratic Party has given former vice president Atiku Abubakar and other northern presidential aspirants the all clear to contest in 2023.

The northern presidential aspirants also include Senator Bukola Saraki, Bauchi and Adamawa state governors, Bala Mohammed and Aminu Tambuwal.

The opposition party, at its National Executive Council meeting, held on Wednesday, declared an open contest for its presidential ticket.

The declaration against the agitation by southern presidential aspirants and socio-cultural groups demanding power shift to the south.

Debo Ologunagba, the spokesperson for the party, stated the outcome of the meeting in a statement he issued.

“After a very extensive deliberation NEC aligned with the recommendation of the PDP National Zoning Committee that the Presidential Election should now be left open.

“The Party should also work towards consensus candidate where possible.

NEC noted the recommendation of the Zoning Committee that in the interest of justice and fair play, the Party should take decision on Zoning timeously so as to prevent complications to the process,” he said.
