Revealed: Why Nigerians might suffer low power supply for longer time

The hope of Nigerians to enjoy improved power supply sooner appears illusory, as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) fails to give a decisive time for its resolution. The TCN is in charge of the bulk distribution of energy to the distribution company before finally getting to end-users.

In its statement on Thursday, the TCN acknowledged the “gradual decrease in available generation into the grid.”

The agency adduced “gas supply to the thermal generating companies” has the reason for the decreased energy supply. It also noted that the situation “has impacted the quantum of bulk power available on the transmission grid for onward transmission to the distribution load centers nationwide.”

It promised to do “everything possible in collaboration with stakeholders in the power sector to ensure that it continues to keep the grid intact.” It however failed to give a timeframe or state what is being done to up gas supply.”

Nigerians are groaning under the weight of erratic power supply and its attendant implications for their economic activities.
