SON returns to seaports to halt substandard goods
The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) says it has returned to the seaports, in the bid to halt the importation of substandard goods into the country.
Farouk Salim, the SON director – general, said this. “We have been temporarily allowed to be in the ports now; we are currently working with the Customs, Nigeria Ports Authority and other related agencies.
“Our presence is impactful, and we also prove to the government that we are committed to the drive on ease of doing business as well as protecting the country from substandard goods,” he said.
The Standards Organisation Of Nigeria (SON) is the apex standardization body in Nigeria. Its mandate includes setting the standards for products, measurements, materials, processes and services amongst others and their promotion at National, Regional and International levels.
The SON’s functions also include certification of products, assistance in the production of quality goods and services; improvement of measurement accuracies and circulation of information relating to standards.
