CDD worried over interim govt. calls

The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) says it is worried some citizens are calling for the formation an interim national government based on the fallouts of the February 25 presidential election in Nigeria.

Idayat Hassan, CDD director, reportedly stated this, Daily Trust said in a report.

“It’s worrying to see citizens calling for interim national government, especially close to 24 years of uninterrupted democracy.

“Actors need to be patient and ensure the full course of the law is served by exhausting all legal remedies.

“The DSS should go ahead to calm tension and avoid heightening tension,” she said.

TheCornet had reported Peter Afunaya, the spokesperson for the Department of State Services (DSS), saying that some citizens are planning to create disturbances in different parts of the country following the elections outcomes.

Afunaya added that the alleged planners are trying to create a chaotic scenario and, at the same time, soliciting a military intervention and an interim national government. The security police said the alleged plot, basically, is to frustrate the inauguration of the next national and sub-national governments.
