Sylva likens Goodluck Jonathan to ‘hippopotamus who cannot leave swamp’

Timipre Sylva, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Bayelsa State, has taken a swipe at former Nigeria’s president, Goodluck Jonathan.

Sylva lost to incumbent Governor Douye Diri, who will be spending another four years in office.

Jonathan, who is from Bayelsa State, had lamented the rising cultism and violence in the state during his congratulatory visit to Diri.

The former president said that he would have had to relocate his aged mother from the state to Abuja, had Diri lost the election.

Jonathan’s allegorical comment apparently did not sit well with Sylva.

In response, Sylva said that Jonathan’s comment was “unfortunate”.

He said, ” Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s statement is unfortunate.

“I sincerely hope he was misquoted. Let me just quote our respected Wole Soyinka: “you can take the hippopotamus out of the swamp but you cannot take the swamp out of the hippopotamus”.
