Sowore plunges into presidential race again

Omoyele Sowore, a Nigerian anti-corruption activist facing treasonable charges, has plunged into the country’s presidential race.

TheCornet reports that the electoral umpire had fixed February 25, 2023 for the presidential election.

Sowore announced his interest to contest the Nigerian presidency on the platform of the party he founded, the African Action Alliance, AAA.

It will be second time that the former students’ union leader would take the gambit.

He similarly contested in 2019 in a race that had now President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, and former Nigerian vice president Abubakar Atiku of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, among others.

Sowore is a gadfly and he has incessantly had brushes with the law, leading to his arrest and detention at different times. He leads the anti-government group, Revolution Nowand at several times called for President Buhari’s resignation for alleged incompetence.
