Sanwo-Olu gets Tinubu’s nod for second term

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has reportedly okayed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a second term of office.

Tinubu, it was said, had impressed on party leaders and members to equally support the governor’s return in 2023.

Daily Post reported that a source within the APC’s Governor’s Advisory Council – the party’s highest decision-making body in Lagos – confirmed Tinubu’s endorsement of the governor to it.

Quoting the said source, the news medium wrote: “Sanwo-Olu is coming back. I can authoritatively confirm that to you. He is likely to declare and will kick off his re-election campaign this weekend at Eagles Square, the venue of the national convention of the APC on March 26 in Abuja.”

The said source reportedly cited Governor Sanwo-Olu’s performance since assuming office as the reason for his endorsement.

The Cornet reports that there have been insinuations that the governor might not run for a second term even though he is constitutionally entitled.

News about APC’s alleged plan to stop the governor from doing so surfaced recently. It was said at the time that some within the governor’s circles had sponsored the story to preempt his party.

The report also named the Head of Service of Lagos State, Hakeem Muri-Okunola as possible successor to Sanwo-Olu.

But, Muri-Okunola denied nursing such ambition and blamed the insinuation on those attempting to drive a wedge between him and the governor.
