Police officers inflict more hardship, extort citizen of N3.1 million

Some police officers are said to have extorted the sum of three million, one hundred and fifty thousand naira (N3, 150,000) from an unnamed citizen.

According to a whistleblower Harrison Gwamnishu, the indicted police officers had stopped their victim at a checkpoint. They searched his phone and discovered his bank account balance.

“Seeing his balance on his banking app”, Gwamnishu said that the police officers led their victim to his house, where they also did not find anything untoward with him.

“He (the victim) was allegedly tortured and threatened. His brother called Police OC Anti-Fraud serving in Lagos State to report the action of the officers but they refused to speak to the OC Anti-Fraud,” the whistleblower added.

“After driving him round Auchi, they headed to Abuja with threat that the victim will never return till he decided to cooperate with them.

“They finally took him to Area Command Auchi and then to a POS agent where they made him transfer N3,000,000 and another N150,000 as POS charges.”

The whistleblower said he personally spoke to the police officers on the telephone but they were unperturbed about their alleged crime.

In response to Gwamnishu’s complaint on his official X handle, the Nigerian Police Complaint Unit said that an “investigation has been initiated” into the incident.
