Plateau: Soldiers, gunmen in shootout as many feared killed

There are reports of gunfighting between soldiers and some gunmen in the conflict-ridden Mangu in Plateau State.

An account of the incident has that about some gunmen invaded the beleaguered community on Saturday. The natives were said to have alerted the soldiers, who mobilised themselves to confront the invaders.

Daily Trust, in its report, claimed sources told the newspaper that the soldiers killed about 30 of the gunmen during the fun fighting that took place at Satguru and Tyop villages.

“The incident occurred between 7 to 7:30 am when the gunmen came in their numbers and started attacking some communities along Gindri road,” the report quoted a security source as saying.

It added that the soldiers arrested more than 50 of the gunmen whole four soldiers sustained injuries.

Plateau State University Caleb Mutfwang had relaxed the initial 24 hours curfew he imposed on the community. The governor fixed the curfew to take place between 8am to 4pm, based on his assessment of the security situation in the affected areas.
