PDP NWC Passes Vote of Confidence on Amb. Damagum

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday passed a vote of confidence on its acting national chairman, Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum.

The action contradicted the recent protest by 60 lawmakers, who asked Damagum to resign from his position.

The lawmakers alleged Damagum to be loyal to minister of federal capital territory, Nyesom Wike, in his battle against incumbent Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

But, the imbroglio turned to be in Damagum’s favour as members of the NWC at a meeting, chaired by deputy national chairman Taofeek Arapaja, affirmed their confidence in his leadership.

According to Debo Ologunagba, the party’s national publicity secretary, the vote was “in commendation of the efforts and commitment of the Acting National Chairman to stabilize and reposition the PDP as the main opposition Party in Nigeria.

“The Deputy National Chairman (South) Amb. Taofeek Arapaja presided over the motion for Vote of Confidence on the Acting National Chairman which was moved by the National Vice Chairman (South East) Chief Ali Odefa and seconded by the National Treasurer, Hon. Yayari Mohammed.

“The NWC assures of its commitment in ensuring the continued stability, growth and success of our great Party at all time,” he said.
