PDP leaders to support Tinubu in 2027 – Ortom

Samuel Ortom, former governor of Benue State, has said that leaders of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would support President Bola Tinubu for a second term of office in 2027.

Ortom is a member of the PDP G-5, comprising incumbent Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, former governors Nyesom Wike, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia).

He spoke at a state luncheon organised by Wike, the incumbent minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“Our leader, Nyesom Wike, has already made a declaration that in 2027, we are supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

ā€œWe have nowhere to go because that is what Nigerians believe. Even the past administration that took Nigeria from top to bottom, we allowed them to work for eight years.

“So, why canā€™t a seasoned administrator in the person President Bola Ahmed Tinubu rule us for eight years,ā€ the former governor said.

The PDP G-5, in the build up to the 2023 presidential election, opposed the party’s presidential candidate Abubakar Atiku.

Their grouse was that it was the turn of the south to produce a presidential flag bearer for the party, in fulfilment of its zoning principle.

However, not all the members of the G-5 supported Tinubu, as Ortom decided to back Peter Obi of the Labour Party. Obi, formerly a member of the PDP and had run as running mate to Atiku in the 2019 presidential election, was considered an outsider in the race.
