Ondo drug addict prosecuted for murder

A man suspected to be a drug addict, Sunday Clement, is currently facing prosecution at the Ondo state Magistrate’s Court, Akure, for beheading his victim.

Clement had beheaded a farmer he met along a bush path, after consuming hard drug, he identified as ‘Ice’. Ice is another name for stimulant drug Crystal Methamphetamine.

During interrogation, Clement allegedly admitted to the crime. He was quoted to have said: “We were both going, and we greeted each other on the path. The spirit just came over me to cut off Taye’s head. I can’t actually say what led to it. I think it was the ‘Ice’ I took in the hot sun.”

The prosecutor, Mary Adebayo, informed the court that the 24-year-old Clement committed the offence on September 4, 2023, at about 2:30 p.m. at Baba Odun Camp, Ofosu in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

Adebayo urged the court to issue an order of remand for Clement, pending the Director of Public Prosecution’s advice on the incident.Ruling, Magistrate Folasade Aduroja acquiesced to the prosecution’s request.
