Police officer who killed victim because of N100 bribe arrested

The Delta state police command says it has detained of one of its officers, Inspector Obi Abri, for killing a citizen, Onyeka Ibe.

Abri murdered his victim at a police checkpoint mounted along the Ugabolu-Illah Road axis of Asaba, the capital of the state.

TheCornet gathered that the killer police officer demanded a N100 bribe from the victim during a stop and search. Having given the same amount to one of Abri’s colleagues who were also at the checkpoint, Ibe declined.

Enraged by Ibe’s refusal, Abri murdered the defenceless citizen, who was travelling along with his wife at the time of the incident.

Edafe Bright, deputy superintendent and the spokesperson for the command, tweeted about the development.

“The Command assures members of the public and the deceased family of justice,” Edafe stated, adding the police would prosecuted the suspect when investigation is completed.
