NLC leader dies as body gears up for strike action
Sunny Osayande, the chairman of Edo State council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC), has died.
Osayande died on Monday, three days to the planned nationwide strike action.
NLC is embittered about Federal Government’s plan to remove petrol subsidy.
TheCornet reports that the government reversed the proposed policy on Monday, saying its “timing is problematic.”
Philip Shaibu, deputy governor of Edo State, said he is whelmed by “a deep sense of loss” over Osayande’s death.
“Osayande was a jolly good fellow, an iconic Edo patriot and a selfless comrade whose invaluable contributions towards the smooth industrial harmony between Government, organized labour and public service in Edo State cannot be quantified.
“Osayande’s death has come at a crucial time his wealth of experience and professional competence were highly needed by our administration in its quest at transforming civil and public service in the state,” said Shaibu.
