Man caught with N2.3bn cocaine says reason for ferrying drugs
A drug suspect Okey Eze, 38, has said he decided to ferry drugs from his base in Mali to Nigeria to take care of his dependents.
The dependents, he said, are four children of his late brother.
Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested Eze, from Orji-River Local Government in Enugu State, on Wednesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The agency said it found 350 wraps of cocaine, worth over N2.3billion, on the suspect. The drugs weigh 7.70kilograms.
Femi Babafemi, the spokesperson for the anti-narcotics body, said Eze concealed the drugs in eight packs, tucked in his luggage.
He also said the suspect claimed a friend resident in Brazil handed him the drug, after declining to assist him financially when he sought his help.
Eze reportedly said his fee for couriering the drug was N500, 000.
