LASTMA officials accused of causing bystander’s death

A brawl involving a police officer and some officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) left one person dead on Tuesday.

The incident took place around the Ago Palace area of the metropolis.

According to an unverified report of the incident, the officials and a police officer working with them chased after a commuter bus’ driver.

After they got the driver to halt the vehicle, one of the officials struggled with the driver to gain control of the steering wheel. The driver, amid the struggle, lost control of the steering wheel and, as a result, rammed into some bystanders.

One bystander died and four others were injured.

Babatunde Farinloye, Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos’ sector commander, confirmed the casualties.
