Lagos police arrested us over sex toys, stole our gold chain – man alleges
A man has alleged police officers attached to the Adeniji Police Division in Lagos state arrested and detained him along with his friends, after they found sex toys on their female companions.
The man, who identifies as Kamaldeen, made the claim on Twitter, adding that the police officers stole their good chain and bracelets.
Tweeting under the handle @kamaldeyforyou, the man said he and his friends had had a dinner date and were heading to the club, when the police officers purportedly stopped their vehicle in the wee hours of the day.
“We stopped and allowed them to do their thing, they then searched each and every one of us and later saw sex toys with the ladies that were with us. Immediately we were put into handcuffs and taken to their station,” he said.
Kamaldeen claimed that getting to the station, the police officers clamped them into the cell and refused his request to contact his lawyer.
“They took my friend’s gold chains and bracelets, and took us inside the cell till around 4:40am, then they later came back and took us to a place and asked us to pay the sum of 150,000,” he further claimed.
He said the police officers reduced the bribe and eventually took N50,000 from them.
Kamaldeen said the police officers turned violent when they demanded their missing gold chain and bracelets, and subsequently kicked them out of the station.
Ben Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos Police Command, who was tagged in the tweets, said he contacted the DPO of the Adeniji Police division. Hundeyin said the DPO was ignorant of the claim and urged the complainant to make an official complaint.
“He (the DPO) is not aware of this case. He’s awaiting your call, as this would help in identifying the officers. They must and will be identified, after which the needful will be done,” Hundeyin said
